We should all be able to talk about discrimination.

Talking about discrimination isn’t fun. It’s not meant to be.

We have all been in those conversations where someone says something hurtful, biased, sometimes downright cruel. Before you know it, you’re going toe to toe in a battle of emotions. Those are the moments where we’re trying so hard to get a point across, we abandon all opportunity for conversation. As if conversation wasn’t the point to begin with. It’s happened to the best of us. And it always feels like our worst moment.

Often we end up in these belligerent brawls because we’re trying to find the right words. Sometimes those right words belong to the likes of Angela Davis, Marsha P. Johnson or Arundhati Roy. Let’s face it; none of us are any of those three greats. And the more we depend on our ability to mimic their voices, the less likely we are to have the honest, authentic conversations that could change the world.

The Prime Directive is an immersive, anti-discrimination program for those of us in Florida committed to ending discrimination. Our program is built on a foundation of

  • accountability

  • boundaries, and

  • the courage to care

What’s in it for me? Participants will receive a total of 8 hours of training per day through an intensive experience with frequent opportunities to come back and learn more. The program will focus on giving participants the tools and strategies to learn, dismantle, question and share what freedom and justice look like and how we get there.

At the end of the each day, participants should expect to know how to do the following:

 1. Understand and speak to anti-discrimination - its roots, its symptoms, who it impacts and how - from their own lens and experience.

 2. Question what we know to be true - critically analyze the fundamental concepts taken for granted as certainty

3. Dismantle talking points - learn how to take a conversation beyond the talking points we hear and commit to a conversation that is unique to you and the person you are speaking to

4. Change the world - knowledge is power and you don't have to have to go far to use it. Everything taught in this program is for your use, so please use it.

DISCLAIMER(S):

- Any participant who seeks to disrupt the program will be removed without a refund.

- If you're looking for a program to help convince you that discrimination exists, then this isn't it. This program doesn't require participants to know how to effect anti-discrimination work, but it does require you believe it is necessary. If you need convincing, I'm sure there's another program that does exactly that. Once you're convinced though, come sign up!
